Lightning 3-Peat with 18-0 Win!
Story by Ray Boetger
The Joshua Springs Lightning are the Agape League Champions for the third year in a row. After seeing the Lightning play on Wednesday, you would never be able to tell that they had lost the day before. But, after losing against Apple Valley Christian 1-2, the Lightning quickly regained steam, and went on to beat the Antelope Valley Christian Eagles 18-0 in five short innings. This year's team is the only team in the history of the school to ever win back-to-back-to-back titles.
Todays game was senior day and all the seniors got to start the game. Senior Tim Krapivkin got the start at pitcher, and did very well. He went 3 innings facing 10 batters, giving up no hits, or runs, and struck out 6, while only walking 1. Junior Tommy Higgins finished out the game in the last 2 innings when he faced 7 batters, walked one, and struck one out. By the end of the game coach Boetger had emptied the bench giving some players who don't normally play some quality game time. It was a fun game for everyone.
The big hitters for the day were sophomore Derek Brogdon, who went 3-4 with a single, double, and a triple, he would have completed the cycle when he hit a shot to center field but the Eagle center fielder was able to get high enough to grab the ball and steal the home run away from Brogdon. He also had 4 RBI’s, and scored three runs. Sophomore Jon Krapivkin went 2 for 2 with two walks, a double, and an RBI, Tim Krapivkin went 1-4, with a smashing home run, giving him 2 RBI’s. Trent Frizzel went 1-4 with one run scored, and 2 RBI’s, Shawn Vrooman went 1-2, and Tommy Higgins went 1-1.
The Win qualified the Lightning for a home game in the first round of the CIF Division VI playoffs which should be next Friday afternoon at 3:15PM. Who the Lightning will play, will be announced on Monday when CIF releases the playoff parings for round one.
