Lightning Storms the Beaches at Avalon... and Win 25-6!

The Offensive Line dominated the game! It was the largest crowd for a sporting event in the history of Avalon... the Island people were ready, some 200+ Joshua Springs hopefuls were ready, it was time to play some FOOTBALL!
It was the first meeting ever of the Avalon Lancers (10-2) and the Lightning (12-0) in CIF semi-final action. The winner would go on to play in the CIF 8-Man Large Team Championship game. The teams were ready to enter the field. Recent rains had the field in pretty bad shape, so much so, that some people were calling this game the "Mud Bowl". The Joshua Springs fans built a tunnel the length of the field shouting "Lightning, Lightning", you could tell the Avalon fans had never seen anything quite like the spirited Lightning fans. The Lightning entered sounding like a train going by...these boys were fired up and ready to play!

The Lightning won the toss and marched down the field and scored on the first possession. The Lancers first possession was 3 and out and the Lightning were on the march again. The Lightning would score 25 unanswered points in the first half and basically shut down the Lancer offense from doing anything.

The Lancers were frustrated and took the half time break to figure out what they needed to do to get into the game. Meanwhile, after the halftime show by the Avalon Cheerleaders, King Thunder (David TenBrook) entered the field waving a Lightning banner and getting the Avalon Fans all fired up. Now, they really wanted to beat the Lightning bad!

The second half the Lancers came out and were tough on defense causing several turnovers. The only one they capitalized on was a blocked punt in the fourth quarter that rolled down to the 12 yard line. They were able to score three plays later. The extra point failed and the score was 25-6. The Lightning controlled the rest of the game with their running offense and the Lancers never really posed a threat to win the game. The Lightning Defense was awesome holding the Lancers to just 108 total Yards and just 5 first downs in the whole game.
