Lightning Football News...Lightning Strikes Calvary Chapel Vista 46-0!
Saturday night was a perfect night to play football. An estimated 1,000+ fans packed into Lightning Stadium and they made themselves known. The crowd cheered and yelled while building the first home tunnel of the season that reached over 50 yds in length. The Pep Band Played, the crowd sounded off, and the Lightning ran out with pride, led by the Joshua Springs Flag Bearer, David TenBrook and #77 Justin Peterson, bearing the American flag. The excitement was in the air...it was time to rummmble!CCV had won the toss and the Lightning kicked off the first home game of 5 in row this year. Lightning Defense made their stand for the second week in a row holding the Calvary Chapel Vista Lions to 0 points, -42 yards rushing and only 3 First downs for a total of -2 yards of offense on the night. The only positive thing that happened for VVC on the night was 7 completed passes for 40 yards of Offense and the defense caused 4 fumbles and 1 Interception. (Of course, most of these were caused by the Lightning 2nd team and JV players entering the game!) The Offense showed signs of brilliance at times and for the 2nd week in a row scored 46 points to end the game early in the fourth quarter by the 8-Man Mercy Rule. The First quarter started off by Nathan Rynning (#12) Hitting Justin Peterson (#77 on a 29-yd pass for a Touchdown. The extra point was good and the Lightning led 7-0. Nate Rynning then hit Jacob Holz (#63) on a 14-yd Pass play also for a TD. The Lightning went for a two point conversion and the scored was then 15-0. The second quarter didn't get any better for CCV Lions as the Lightning hit pay dirt 3 times. Justin Peterson started the 2nd quarter out with an 11-yd for a TD and with the extra point it was not 22-0. Then Jesse Mock (#55) ran in from 2-yds out for a TD to bring the score to 28-0. A two point conversion brought the score to 30-0. Then Nathan Rynning finished the first half with a 21-yd field goal to bring the score to 33-0 at the half. The Lightning struck in the third quarter when Steven Wilcox (#32), top rusher of the game with 101 yds, got lose on a 6-yd TD run to bring the score to 40-0 with the extra point. Early in the fourth quarter the game was ended when Jesse Mock broke through the line, for his 2nd TD of the game, on a 13-yd run. Nathan Rynning was 6 of 11 passing for 84 yards and he had 9 yds rushing. Steven Wilcox had 101 yds, Jesse Mock had 50 yds and Justin Peterson had 38 yds rushing for the night. Justin Peterson was top receiver with 2 catches for 46 yards. Chis Bridenstine (#83) had 1 catch for 15 yards and Jacob Holz pulled down one for 14 yards. Top defensive efforts were made by Jesse Mock - 12 Tackles, Justin Peterson - 9 Tackles, Tom Robinson (#37) - 7 tackles and Jacob Holz had 6 tackles plus 2 sacks. Tom Robinson also recovered a fumble and Jerry Thorn (#45), Jordan Leichtner (#43) and Jake Henley (#28) all had an Interception each. The Lightning are at home this week, for the 2nd of five home games in a row, as Excelsior Education Ctr. comes to visit Lightning field this Saturday night at 7:00PM. Excelsior Education Ctr. has 8 times more students than the Lightning, so it should be a very good game. Be sure and bring the family out and support your Lightning Football team.
