Lightning Football News...Lightning Crush Lone Pine 62-0!
It was the first time the Lone Pine Eagles had visited Lightning stadium and I'm sure it was a visit they won't forget anytime soon. The Lightning Defense wasn't giving up anything holding the Eagles to just 27 total yards of Offense. The Lightning Offense scored all 9 times they had the ball in the first half. Yep, you heard right, the game never made it to the second half. The Lightning defeated Lone Pine 62-0 in just 24 minutes of regulation play and because of the 8-man Mercy rule the game was ended early for the fourth game in a row. Once Lone Pine was behind they were making a lot of play choices out of desperation. Many times they would go for it on 4 down instead of punting, thus giving the Lightning excellent field position. Because of this the Lightning lead 41-0 at the end of the first quarter. The second team Offense played most of the 2nd quarter and still scored 21 more points. The Lightning struck just two minutes into the game when Jesse Mock (#55) broke through the line to Pay Dirt and it was 7-0 with the extra point. Then Nathan Rynning (#12) hit Jacob Holz (#63) on a 10 yard pass play for a TD. It was then 15-0 as the Lightning went for a 2-pt play and it was good. Steven Wilcox (#32) made it 22-0 when he ran in from 1-yard out and the extra point was good. Rynning hit Jesse Mock on a 17-yd pass play for the next TD and then hit Justin Peterson (#77) on a 10-yd pass for a TD on the very next possession. This brought the score to 35-0. Peterson then ended the first quarter with a 3-yd run for a TD and it was 41-0. The second quarter scoring started when Wilcox broke free for a 16-yd run for a TD and extra point making it 48-0. On the next possession , Sammy White (#13), scored his first TD of the year on a 2-yd run and it was 55-0. The last score of the game game when Jake Henley (#28) ran in a fumble 14-yds for a TD. The extra point made it 62-0. The offense could have scored again but decided to just down the ball rather than make the loss any bigger on the Visiting Eagles. Nathan Rynning finished the game 5 of 6 for 58 Yards passing and 35 yards rushing on 4 carries for a total of 93 all purpose yards. Top rushers were Steven Wilcox with 60-yds and Jesse Mock with 53-yds. Top receivers were Justin Peterson and Jesse Mock both with 17-yds. Defensive stats are unavailbale at this time. The Lightning will be playing Bethel Christian of Lancaster on Friday this week (Oct. 11th). This will be our 2002 Homecoming game, festivities will begin at 6:00. We will be crowning the Homecoming King and Queen. So come out early and see who this years King and Queen will be. More Football NewsSeptember 28th, 2002The Bigger They Are....Excelsior falls 55-8!
