Lightning Football News...

The Lightning coaches had seen film on Antelope Christian but weren't too sure of what kind of game they would bring... but after a few minutes everyone could see they brought their "A" game. Everyone on the AVC sidelines were hoping this would be the year they would finally beat the Lightning. But it was the Lightning defense and the strong running game of Sophomore Tony Garrido that would break the back of the hopeful AVC Eagles.

Tony rushed for 171 yards (tied for 7th all-time best in rushing for 1 game) and 4 TD's. The Lightning defense were strong against the run and passing. Junior Safety Kevin Adair had 3 Interceptions and dropped 2 more. The 3 "picks" will earn Adair a spot in the Lighting Hall of Fame for "Most Interceptions in one game" (see Lightning Hall of Fame in the Archives). Jordan Leichtner and Chris Bridenstine both had 10 Tackles a piece and are tied at 62 tackles for the year each. The Game was really dominated by the Lightning which led 46-8 at half time. Most of the crowd thought the game would end early by a 45-pt Merch Rule, but the Lightning coaches took the opportunity to play some of the subs against a good team. The Eagles were able to score twice in the last quarter making the final score to 46-24.

The Lightning are now 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in Agape League play. The Lightning are on target to win the Agape League for the third straight year. But Victor Valley Christian, CSOD and Bethel Christian all have better teams this year and to repeat as champions again be a big challenge for the Lightning.

The Lightning will take on Victor Valley Christian next Friday night for Homecoming. The events will start at 6:00 Sharp with Marine skydivers diving into Lightning stadium at 6:05. So don't be late! The Homecoming King & Queen will be named at 6:30. Dinner will be ready by 5:30 so come early and get one of Chef Dean's BBQ Tri-Tip Sandwiches.
