Lightning Football News...
Lightning Open Agape League with 46-12 Win!The Lightning (2-3, 1-0), opened Agape League play with a 46-12 win on the road at the Antelope Valley Christian Eagles (0-5, 0-1) Saturday afternoon. Because the Eagles are in a rebuilding year the Lightning Coaches decided to give some of the JV players a shot at some varsity action and lesson the pressure for the Eagles. Well... at least that was the plan. Before the game would end, the Lightning defense would cause 7 turnovers and the Lightning Offense would amass 352 yds of offense, 258 yds on the ground and 94 through the air. The Lightning are now 7-0 against Antelope Valley Christian all time. The biggest mistake a team can make playing the Lightning, is to look at their W/L record and assume that this year's team is not very good. On the contrary, this year's team has played four of the top 10 teams in 8-man football and only really got beat once. Two of the three losses could have been won in the last few minutes of the game. The Lightning built sizable leads in both of the games only to lose it in the last quarter. Those games build character in players and a strong desire to win. Is the Lightning on a mission for the last half of the season? You better believe it! It all started on Saturday at Antelope Valley Christian. JV starting QB Freshman Jesse Frazer got to start the game and by the end of the 1st quarter the Lightning were ahead 26-0. The Lightning Coaches then started sending in the subs and most everyone got playing time. On offense, Freshman Eddie Nixon rushed 15 times for 102 yds and 2 TD's, Junior Tony Garrido had 10 carries for 50 yds and a TD, Frazer had 6 carries for 37 yds and a TD, as well as a passing TD. Sophomore Camron Smith had 4 carries for 15 yds and a TD, Varsity QB Tim Krapivkin had limited play but did run for 31 yds and passed for 53. Senior receiver Kevin Adair had 1 catch for 41 yds and a TD and Junior Tight-End Richard Ressa had a catch for 25 yds. On Defense, Adair had two Interceptions and Junior Jesse Marshall had a pick as well, Juniors Kyle McClay and Ressa both caused two fumbles each. Junior Ray Boetger lead all players with 15 tackles, Juniors Daniel Palmer and Jackie Roberts both had 8 each, and Palmer had the only sack of the day. Next up for the Lightning, the Hesperia Christian Patriots (3-2, 1-0) comes to Lightning Stadium Saturday night for an Agape League game. The Lightning have a 4-0 record against the Patriots, but the Patriots believe that they have the team this year to change that. The game starts at 7:00PM. The JV squads for both teams will play at 4:00PM. The Lightning JV team are 3-0 and have beaten their first three opponents 152-6. So, you don't want to miss the JV game either!
