Lightning Football News...Lightning Fall Short in Fourth Quarter! The Lightning (1-3) played their best 3 quarters of the year giving Cal Lutheran (3-1) all they could handle. The first half was a defensive battle between both teams who could only produce one score each before the end of the first half. The powerful running game of the Lightning was held in check in the first half by the Cal Lu defense. The run was just not going anywhere. On the other side of the ball the Lightning defense also did their job of holding down the passing attack of the Cal Lu and for the most part stopping thier running game as well. At the end of the half the score was 8-6, Cal Lu. In the third quarter, the Lightning, who weren't getting much on the ground, decided to go to their secret weapon, "a passing game!" Junior QB Tim Krapivkin teamed up with Senior Kevin Adair for 6 catches and 116 yds in the air in the 2nd half. Krapivkin in all, would pass for 9 of 26 and 189 yds in the air... his best performance of the year. Krapivkin also would end up with 106 yds rushing giving him 295 all-purpose yards on the night. Junior Tony Garrido didn't get much on the ground but did get 2 catches for 38 yards as well as Junior Richard Ressa had one catch for 35 yds. By the end of the third quarter the Lightning would go ahead 25-8 on Cal Lu in a dominating performance. However, "Mr. Mo" left the side of the Lightning and ended up giving Cal Lu one of the most dominating 4th quarter performances they have ever had. Cal Lu managed to run off 24 unanswered points to close the game out 32-25 over the shell-shocked Lightning. The last two weeks the Lightning have played good solid football, getting a good lead on both Riverside Christian and Cal Lutheran, both Top 10 ranked teams, only to see their lead slip away into close defeats. The Lightning Defense played great with Junior Ray Boetger leading all players with 17 tackles and 2 caused fumbles. Senior Jerry Thorn has 12 tackles, freshman Eddie Nixon has 11 tackles and Garrido had 10 tackles. The Lightning just played the toughest pre-season in the schools history. Playing all top 10 ranked teams. The Lightning will now open their Agape League season this Saturday at Antelope Christian in Lancaster. The Game will start at 1:00.
Lightning JV Crushes Cal Lutheran 56-6! The Lightning JV team are still on fire! They have defeated their first three opponents 152-6, with all games stopped early because of the 8-man "mercy rule". The Cal Lutheran JV team was no match for the Lightning. Junior Joe Virga rushed for 177yds and 3 TD's not to mention his KO return for a TD. The other part of the "dynamic duo", Sophomore Aaron Newman, also ran for 132yds and 2 TD's. The game was out of hand by the end of the first quarter and did not get any better as the first half ended 42-0. Two more TD's scored in the third quarter and the game was over 56-6. Cal Lu did manage to do one thing no other team has done... and that is to score any points at all. If you want to see this year's JV team in action you need to come out early to the games. The JV games start at 4:00. You won't be disappointed.
