Lightning Defense Too Much for CSOD!

The Lightning (5-3, 4-0), won their fourth game in a row and are now in first place in the Agape League. The CSOD Conquerors (5-3, 3-1) arrived Friday night ready to claim this year's Agape League Championship only to find a dominating Lightning Defense that had them hoping to just score for 3 quarters of football. Finally in the fourth quarter, #30 Mack Gordon of CSOD did score making it 34-6. The Lightning would go on to win 41-12.

The Conquerors, coming into this game had averaged 55 pts per game in Agape League play and had not scored less than 25 points in either of their 2 losses. So, to be shut down for three quarters of play had the entire CSOD team in a state of shock.

Coach Roberts said "This was the best three quarters of defensive football we have played this year." Junior LB Ray Boetger had 16 tackles to lead the defensive squad on the night. Senior Safety Kevin Adair and Junior CB Tony Garrido also had an oustanding night shutting down the CSOD passing game.

Wait a minute, what about the offense, they weren't just sitting on the bench doing nothing! The Lightning offense scored 34 unanswered points on the 7th ranked team in CIF 8-Man Large Division. This was a big surprise, considering the Lightning were considered a 7-pt underdog by many.

Junior QB Tim Krapivkin, Freshman RB Eddie Nixon and Garrido were unstoppable. The Conquerors had no answer for them as they ripped through the Conquerors defense 7, 8, 15, yards per carry. Adair was outstanding as he had a beautiful 48 yd catch from Krapivkin that opened up the run game. Then there was the fake punt call that sent Garrido into the end zone to make it 34-0. Wow, it was a very exciting game to watch and a HUGE win for our team just before the playoffs.

The Lightning take on Bethel Christian this Friday night at Lightning Field. This is the Lightning homecoming game and festivities start at 6:00PM sharp. Pastor Jerel Hagerman will be skying diving into Lightning stadium with two other marines to open the homecoming show. There will also be fireworks at the halftime show. The snack bar opens at 5:30 with BBQ tri-tip sandwiches, so come out early and bring the whole family.

The JV Squad will play Hesperia Christian on Monday at Hesperia and then return home to play Indio Charter School Thursday at 7:00 under the lights at Lightning field.
