Lightning Hold on to Win, 20-15!

The Lightning (3-3, 2-0), won their second game in a row and a tie for first place in the Agape League, by defeating the Hesperia Christian Patriots 20-15 at Lightning stadium Saturday night.

The game was not as close as the score would indicate. The Lightning started out moving the ball well on the ground with great runs by Junior Tony Garrido and then... the first of 4 Lightning turnovers happened. The Patriots scored first by picking off one of Junior QB Tim Krapivkin's passes and running it in for a score. That made the score 8-0. The Lightning came right back running the ball and marched down the field to tie it up 8-8.

The next series for the Patriots was their best of the evening as they sustained a long drive on the ground and after a few penalaties on the JS defense, the Patriots would score again making the score 15-8.

The Lightning again answered with a long drive of their own making the score 15-14. The Patriots blocked the extra point. That's the way the first half ended.

The second half was all about defense as the Lightning defense shut down the the Patriots offense from scoring any more points. The Patriots defense did manage to cause 3 fumbles by purposely stripping the ball as often as they could. That is the only defensive strategy by the Patriots that kept the game close.

The Lightning offense was moving the ball very well on the ground and scored making the score 20-15 after the 2-pt conversion failed. The Patriots made one last push toward the end zone mainly through the air but the Lightning secondary played very well and stopped the Patriots with only 1:10 left on the clock. The game ended with a score of 20-15.

Next up, the The Lightning travel to Victor Valley Christian on Friday night to take on the The Royals who are currently 4-2. This is an important Agape League game and the team needs your support. The game starts at 7:30PM. Hope to see you there!

The Lightning dominated the game even though the Patriots did manage a score in every quarter but the last quarter.
