JS Feature Top Football Players of the Year!
It was a night full of excitement at Joshua Springs Christian High School as the 2005 Football Awards were handed out for the Varsity and Junior Varsity programs. This was a great year for both programs as the Junior Varsity went 8-0 in the regular season and the Varsity team went 9-0 in the regular season and all the way to the CIF 8-Man, Div I Championship game, finishing 12-1.
Coach Roberts, 60-19 in his seven years as head coach, had many good things to say about his program and is excited about next year. Only a hand full of teams in the history of California 8-man football have made to the CIF Finals three times in five years, the Lightning did it in 2001, 2002, and 2005. This is the 10th year of the football program and they have made it to the playoffs eight times and won the Agape League Championship four times. The Lightning have a lot to be proud of and much to be grateful for.
The Varsity team will be losing eight seniors but are returning eight starters who are all impact players. Then add in the sophomores as they move up from JV and the Lightning will be looking good in 2006.
The evening started out with a highlight film presentation of the junior varsity team during the delicious steak and tri-tip dinner prepared by the JS BBQ team. Then the awards were handed out to the top JV players. Awards went to: Alex Carter - Most Valuable Player 2005, Derek Brogdon - Offensive MVP, Josh Buchanan - Defensive MVP, Cole Roberts - Best Running Back, Danny Burkett - Lineman of the Year, Jon Krapivkin - Most Versatile Player, and Brandon Hessner - Most Improved Player.
The crowd started to roar as the varsity highlight film was played as each player was featured showing the many great moments of the season and then got quiet as the top awards for the year were handed out. This would be the last night of football for the seniors and a night to remember always.
