Lightning Football News... ![]() Lightning Defeats Excelsior Education Center 49-12!The Joshua Springs Lightning (8-0,4-0) rolled to their 8th straight win and won the 2005 Agape League Championship officially by defeating the Excelsior Education Center Eagles (2-6,0-3) 49-12 at Victorville, CA. on Saturday Night. The Lightning dropped in the CIF DIV I polls despite the win to the #2 position. Faith Baptist is now #1 in Div I having won 20 straight games, and their last one over Avalon by a score of 61-0. Coach Roberts expected this to happen because the Lightning's last few games having been against weaker opponents and Roberts has been playing a lot of subs preparing for the playoffs. The Lightning rolled up 401 total yards against the Eagles, 197 yd's were on the ground and 204 yd's in the air. This was only the second time this year that the Lightning passed for more yards than they rushed. The Lightning defense held the Eagles to 229 yd's of total offense allowing only 13 in the air but gave up 229 on the ground, 118 yards more than the season average of 111 yd's per game. Coach Roberts was not concerned about the Eagles rushing so well on the Lightning but did feel that this was not one of the Lightning's best defensive performances. The Lightning rolled to a 35 point lead in the first half and started making substitutions in order to get more players playing time. The Eagles first score came after the Lightning offense fumbled on the Lightning 15 yd line. The Eagles punched it in after several attempts to finally get on the scoreboard making the score 35-6. The Eagles #14 was a 230 lb running back that gave the Lightning defense a good challenge all night. The Lightning came right back and scored making it 41-6 Lightning. The Eagles then put together their best drive of the night taking most of the fourth quarter making it 41-12. The Lightning scored very quickly making it 49-12, and that is how the game ended. Tops in offense were Sophomore QB Jesse Frazer who was 10 of 13 for 201 yd's and 2 TD's while also picking up 24 yd's on 4 carries, Senior RB Tony Garrido had 8 carries for 91 yd's and 2 TD's and 2 catches for 50 yd's, Sophomore RB Eddie Nixon had 9 carries for 82 yd's and 3 TD's as well as 1 catch for 27 yd's, Junior TE Tommy Higgins had 6 catches for 87 yd's and a TD, Senior TE Tim Krapivkin had 2 catches for 40 yd's and a TD. Defensive top players were Senior Ray Boetger who had 18 tackles and one pass defense, Senior JC Roberts who had 14 tackles, 1 for a loss and 1 sack for a 5 yd loss, Garrido had 13 tackles and 1 fumble recovery, Senior Kyle McClay had 11 tackles, Nixon had 10 tackles, Krapivkin had 6 tackles and an interception and Higgins had 6 tackles and an interception. Next up for the Lightning is a home game against Lone Pine at Lightning stadium on Saturday Nov. 5, at 7:00PM as their last regular season game. It will also be senior appreciation night honoring all of the senior football players. The ceremonies start at 6:00PM.
