Top Ranked JS Crushes Trona 48-0! 

Joshua Springs' football field was full of Tornados and Lightning Saturday night when the top ranked Joshua Springs Lightning (3-0) defeated the Division II, #5 ranked, Trona Tornados (1-2) by a score of 48-0. This was the first meeting ever between the Tornados and the Lightning (no pun intended) and one the Tornados will not forget any time soon. The Lightning defense dominated the game with a record breaking 10 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 Fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions.

The Lightning offense rolled off 330 total yds of total offense with 260 of those on the ground. Top offensive players of the game were Sophomore QB Jesse Frazer who completed 9 of 15 in the air for 70 yds, 2TDs and rushed the ball 10 times for 84yds and 1 TD. Senior Joe Virga rushed 11 times for 70 yds, 1TD, Sophomore Eddie Nixon rushed 14 times for 58 yds and 3TDs, and Senior Tony Garrido rushed 9 times for 48 yds. Junior Tommy Higgins had 4 catches for 25 yds, 1TD and a 2-pt conversion. Higgins left the game at the half with an elbow injury that will keep him out of at least the next few games. Garrido had 2 catches for 24 yds, Senior Tim Krapivkin had one catch for a 2yd TD.

On Defense Sophomore Boomer Arnold had his best performance as a varsity defensive player with 8 tackles and a school record 3 interceptions. Garrido had 14 tackles, 2 for a loss, one interception returned for 12yds and a fumble recovery returned for 13 yds. Senior Kyle McClay had 12 tackles, 4 for a loss, a fumble recovery and a sack. Nixon had 13 tackles, Senior JC Roberts had 9 tackles, 4 for a loss. Junior Kicker Blake Martz had a great game kicking with 4 touchbacks on 7 kicks and only 19 return yds for the game.

Next up for the Lightning is a road trip to play the DIV I, #6 ranked, Cal Lutheran C-Hawks at Cal Lutheran. The C-Hawks are the third top ranked team in a row the Lightning will face. The game will be played Saturday night at 7:00pm. The Lightning JV will play the JV C- Hawks at 4:00PM. The Lightning JV defeated the JV C-Hawks 44-6 last Saturday.
