Lightning Defeat Royals in 48-0 Blowout!

It was the 2005 homecoming game and Lightning Stadium was packed with over 2000 Lightning fans. Homecoming is always the biggest night of the year for festivities and tonight would be one of the best. The night got underway with the crowning of the 2005 Homecoming King and Queen for this year. The 2004 King and Queen, Jerry Thorn and Jackie Clary were on hand to pass on the crowns to the 2005 King & Queen, Tim Krapivkin and Danielle Buckner. The Pep Band took over and rocked the crowd for a while. Then about 10 minutes before 7:00, everyone stood for a word of prayer and Cassie Spicher sang the National Anthem. When she was done a crowd of about 1,000 went onto the field to form the biggest tunnel of the year for the #1 ranked team in CIF 8-Man Div I Football.

The Lightning (6-0) having faced four top ranked teams over the last four games were looking forward to the game with the non-ranked Victor Valley Royals. The game wasn't much of a challenge for the Lightning as the Royals are in a rebuilding year and have only won 2 games on the year. The Lightning stated making substitutions as early as the 2nd quarter.

The highlight of the night was the half-time show. The Lightning were up 35-0 at the half and the half-time show featured a presentation from the mini-cheer camp along with all the cheer squads and alumni. Then there was the fireworks show that lasted about 5 minutes as the pep band played "Eye of the Tiger".

The game was stopped early on a 45-pt mercy rule in the third quarter.

The Lightning offense had 333 total yd's on the evening 216 yd's in the air and 115 yd's on the ground. The Lightning defense dominated the game only allowing a total of 39 yd's for the Royals. It was a night of big plays for the Lightning with 3 plays over 40yds for TD's. Sophomore QB Jesse Fraser was 4 of 13 for 115 yd's, 2 TD's., and had 3 carries for 24 yd's Sophomore Eddie Nixon had 3 carries for 52 yd's, 1 TD and a 2-pt conversion, Senior Tony Garrido had 4 carries for 38 yd's and a TD, Senior Joe Virga had 5 carries for 44 yd's and 1 catch for 12 yd's, Junior Aaron Newman had 7 carries for 29 yd's and a TD and Junior Camron Smith had 4 carries for 26 yd's Junior Tommy Higgins had one catch for 65 yd's and a TD as well as a kick off return for 25 yd's Senior Tim Krapivkin had 1 catch for 40 yd's and a TD as well as a 54 yd fumble recovery return for a TD.

On Defense for the Lightning, senior Kyle McClay had 5 tackles, Senior Ray Boetger had 4 tackles and a sack, Junior AJ Schooler had 3 tackles and a fumble recovery, Senior JC Roberts had 2 tackles and a sack and Junior Jeff Miller had 1 tackle, 1 sack and a safety.
