Lightning Move to 6-0 with 67-20 Win!

The #1 ranked Joshua Springs Lightning (6-0,2-0) picked up their 2nd Agape League win in a row and moved to first place in the Agape League. The visiting team was the undefeated Antelope Valley Christian Eagles who came into Lightning stadium Friday night 5-0 and ranked #6 in CIF 8-Man Div II. It was also Homecoming night and the stadium was packed with close to 2000 fans on hand to see the crowning of 2006 Homecoming King Greg Thompson and Queen Kristin Manley. Lightning stadium can be a pretty intimidating place when the stands are packed, the Drum Corps and Pep Band are doing their thing and the Cheerleaders along with 50 plus new Mini Cheer Camp members are cheering on the team.

The Eagles came out determined to give the Lightning a good game and they did just that for the first quarter. They were a team of "Big Plays", the first one was a kickoff return by the Eagles Josiah Broadway for a TD and then a deep pass to Broadway again for a TD. The score was only 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and it looked like it was going to be a close one.

The 2nd quarter was an entirely different story as the Lightning would run off 48 points and set two new passing records in the process. Junior QB Jesse Frazer set a new school record for passing TD's in a game with 5. Senior TE Tommy Higgins set a new record for number of catches in a game for TDs and that was also 5.

The game was ended with 10:15 left in the third quarter by the 45 pt mercy rule, the score was 67-20. The Lightning had scored 10 times and ran up 361 yards of total offense, 250 yds on the ground. Junior Eddie Nixon had 153 of those yards and moved into 2nd place as all time career rusher with 2708 yds rushing in three years. Tony Garrido is the career leading rusher with 2837 yds, Nixon make pass Garrido on Saturday at Lancaster.

On offense, Nixon also had scored 1 TD, and a 2-pt conversion. Senior Camron Smith had 42 yds on 6 carries, Junior Jon Krapivkin 1 run for 28 yds and a TD while catching a pass for 28 yds also, Frazer had 2 carries for 18 yds and a TD, and Higgins had 5 catches for 78 yds and 5 TDs and a 78 yd kickoff return for a TD.

On defense, Nixon had 5 tackles, 2 for a loss and an Interception, Junior Derek Brogdon had 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, Junior Boomer Arnold had 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, and Junior Vincent Ellis had a sack.

Next up for the Lightning is an away game at Bethel Christian in Lancaster, CA on Saturday, October 21 at 12:00PM. The Eagles are 1-5 and struggling this year, so I wouldn't get to the game too late, it might be over at the half.
