Lightning Defeat Bethel Christian 55-6!
The Joshua Springs Lightning (7-0,3-0) took on the Bethel Christian Eagles Saturday at Lancaster, Ca. This would be a long day for the Lightning which started at 6:00AM when they boarded the bus for Lancaster. After the 3 1/2 hour bus ride the Lightning hit the field shaking the sleep out of their eyes.
One might think after winning a big game last week against the undefeated Antelope Valley Christian, and now playing a team that has a record of 1-5 on the year, the team would be less motivated. But that wasn't the case in this game, even though the Lightning only managed to pick up 8 pts in the 1st quarter. A few of the starters didn't start the first series having missed practices during the week, so the offensive machine really didn't get started until the 2nd quarter.
The Lightning came our in the 2nd quarter and rolled off 29 unanswered points making the score 37-0 at the half. The Lightning continued the domination adding 18 more points in the third quarter. At 9:47 left in the 3rd, the Eagles did manage to escape the shutout picking up 6 points on an 18 yd pass play from the Eagle QB to the RB. However, the Lightning came right back ending the game by a mercy rule.
On offense junior QB Jesse Fraser was 7 of 11 for 100 yds and a TD and an interception, while rushing for 43 yds on 5 carries and a TD, junior Eddie Nixon had 205 yds on 22 carries, 4 TD's and 3, 2-pt conversions, junior Jon Krapivkin had 5 carries for 44 yds and a TD as well as 1 catch for 14 yds, senior Camron Smith had 27 yds on 6 carries, sophomore Cole Roberts had 26 yds on 7 carries and a TD and junior Derek Brogdon had 15 yds on 3 carries. Junior Boomer Arnold had 3 catches for 40 yds and a TD and senior Tommy Higgins had 2 catches for 46 yds.
On defense, Nixon had 14 tackles, 4 for a loss, Brogdon had 7 tackles and a pick he returned for 8 yds, junior Jeff Brady had 5 tackles, Smith had 4 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and recovered a fumble, Fraser had 4 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, an interception and a fumble recovery, Arnold had 4 tackles, Krapivkin had 2 tackles and a fumble recovery and Higgins had 3 tackles, 1 for a loss.
Next up for the Lightning is an away game at Victor Valley Christian at Victorville, CA on Friday, October 27 at 7:00PM. The Royals are 4-3 and are ranked 2nd in the Agape League. They have a passing game, so this should be a good game.
