Lightning Rolls Past Hesperia Christian 41-13 !
The #1 ranked Joshua Springs Lightning (5-0,1-0) hosted their Agape League rivals, the Hesperia Christian Patriots, to open the Agape League season Friday night at Lightning Stadium. The Patriots have played one of the toughest schedules in 8-Man football this season and came into Lightning stadium 1-3 on the year.
The Patriots hoping to pick up a win and upset the Lightning in this game soon lost hope as the Lightning pulled out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and then on to a 26-0 lead at the half. By the end of the third quarter it was 41-6 and Coach Roberts started getting more subs in the game for quality playing time. The Patriots did manage a 4th quarter TD and the game ended 41-13. This game has become a tremendous rivalry for the Patriots who have never beaten the Lightning since the Lightning entered the Agape League in 2000.
On the offensive side of things Junior Eddie "Nitro" Nixon had 226 yds and one TD rushing as well as 16yds receiving, Senior Camron Smith had 68yds and two TDs, Junior QB Jesse Frazer had 19 yds and two TDs while passing for 40 yds and a TD. Senior TE Tommy Higgins had 7 yds and a TD, Junior Jon Krapivkin had 2 catches for 12 yds and Junior Derek Brogdon had a 2-pt conversion and was 4 of 5 on PATs.
On defense Senior Aaron Newman led the pack with 8 tackles and a sack, Brogdon had 8 tackles, Nixon had 7 tackles and a sack, Krapivkin had 7 tackles, two for a loss and a pass defense and Smith had 3 tackles and a sack.
Next up for the Lightning is an Agape League showdown against the undefeated Antelope Valley Christian Eagles (5-0) from Lancaster, CA. The game will be played at Lightning stadium on Friday, October 13 at 7:00PM. That night is also Homecoming and those festivities start at 6:00PM with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. Cheer mini-camp will also be performing at half time along with a fireworks display.
