Pastor Jerel Takes One for the Team!
Lightning Stadium was filled with Lightning Fans Saturday August 26th during the annual Purple N Gold fund raiser. The event lasted from 1:00PM to 10:00PM featuring the 2006 Jr High, JV and Varsity football teams in competition.
The day got started with the punt, pass and kick competition and ended with all three teams playing scrimmages, showing the Lightning fans what they can look forward too this year. But one of the highlights of the day was the dunking of Pastor Jerel Hagerman and his arch rival (secretary) Debbie Wagner who competed in raising funds all week with the loser getting dunked. As it turns out both took a dunking for the team and raised over $2400 in the process.

The day ended with the 2005 CIF 8-Man Div 1 runner-ups, hitting the field and showing no weakness from last year. The offenses posted 72 points on the night and a final scrimmage score of 40-32, with the Gold team holding on for the win. That is a lot of points to put on the Lightning defenses, so is the defense not up to par? Nothing could be farther from the truth in the eyes of this reporter! The offenses and defenses looked awesome, it was a night of big plays that broke the offenses loose.
Coach Roberts has not given his thoughts on the team this year as yet, and when asked, he just smiled as said "We'll see." Is Roberts just being cautious in making a prediction or is he trying to keep his team a secret for as long as possible?
The secret will be out of the bag on September 9th, at 7:00PM, when back-to-back, 8-Man Div 2 Champion, Desert Chapel comes to Lightning stadium. Desert Chapel has never beaten the Lightning and will be looking to avenge the 54-6 beating the Lightning put on them in 2001, when the Lightning were on their way to the CIF Championship the very first time. It should be a great game for both teams.
