Lightning Defeats #5 Huskies 33-19!

The #1 ranked Joshua Springs Lightning (4-0) hosted the #5 ranked Rolling Hills Prep Huskies (4-1) from Los Angeles Friday night before a packed stadium. This was the game that was supposed to tell the coaches and the fans exactly how good this year's Lightning varsity team is and it did just that.

The Lightning scored first and never looked back giving the Huskies their first loss of the season. The Huskies had only allowed 6 points in their first four games but had a problem containing Lightning QB Jesse Frazer who scored three TD's and passed for one more. The Lightning offense rolled up 298 totals yards, 189 on the ground and 109 through the air while the defense sacked the Huskies four times and recovering three fumbles.

The Lightning scored 13 points in within the first five minutes of the game on a 61 run TD breakaway by Frazer and a 24 yd TD pass from Frazer to Senior TE Tommy Higgins. The Huskies took a time out and settled down to play some good football scoring 7 points to finish the quarter 13-7, JS. Frazer scored again in the 2nd quarter on a QB keeper making the score 19-7, Junior Kicker Derek Brogdon hit his first of three PAT's on the night and it was 20-7 going into the locker rooms for the half.

The Huskies came out of the locker room fired up but the JS defense met the challenge shutting down the Husky offense for the whole quarter while the Lightning offense pounded in another score with a great pro style catch from junior Boomer Arnold for 13 yds over the middle and a finishing 2-yd run to pay dirt by Junior RB Eddie Nixon. The Huskies then got good field position on a 15 yd penalty call setting up for their 2nd TD score, making the score 26-13. The Lightning came right back answering the score when Frazer scored on a 1-yd QB keeper, with the extra point it was 33-13. That is the way the scored stayed until the Huskies threw up a hail-mary pass with seven seconds left in the game and scored. The extra point was blocked and the game ended 33-19.

Top in offense was Frazer who was 9-14 through the air for 109 yds, and 1 TD while rushing for 70 yds and 3 TD's on just 12 carries. Nixon had 26 carries for 101 yds and 1 TD while grabbing two in the air from Frazer for 32 yds. Higgins had 2 catches for 24 yds and 1 TD, Brogdon had three catches for 28 yds, Arnold had 2 catches for 25 yards and Senior Camron Smith had 7 carries for 18 yds.

Brogdon had his best defensive came of the season with 10 tackles, 2 for a loss and 2 sacks. Nixon had 14 tackles, 2 for a loss, Frazer had 8 tackles and 1.5 sacks, Junior Jon Krapivkin had 10 tackles, 1 for a loss, Senior Jon Crase had 8 tackles, 1 caused fumble and a fumble recovery, Arnold had 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, Senior Aaron Newman had 4 tackles, .5 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries, Smith had 4 tackles and 1 caused fumble.

Next up for the Lightning is an Agape League opener against rival Hesperia Christian at Lightning stadium on Friday Oct. 6th at 7:00PM. The Patriots have never beaten the Lightning and are looking forward for the opportunity to change that record.
