Lightning D too Much for the Royals!

The Joshua Springs Lightning (8-0,4-0) were on the road Friday night against the Victor Valley Christian Royals(4-4, 2-2) in Victorville. It was the Royal homecoming and the Royals honored thier homecoming court prior to the game and its a good thing they did, because the game was over at the half. The Lightning defense conducted a clinic on how to play defense against a passing team shutting the Royals down to -4 total yds of offense in two quarters of play, while rolling up 354 yds and 45 pts on offense to stop the game at the half.

The Lightning coaches were glad to see the team performing at playoff caliber intensity and really shutting down a good team. The Lightning defense created 6 sacks and 1 interception in the game giving the Roylas -42 yds rushing and 38 yds passing. The Lightning offense was like a steamroller that the Royals' defense had no answer for; the Lightning rolled up 247 yds on the ground and 107 yds through the air, in 24 minutes of play.

On offense, Lightning QB Jesse Fraser was 4 of 5 for 104 yds and 1 TD. Junior RB Eddie Nixon had 15 touches for 103 yds and a TD. Nixon is now the Lightning's all time Career rusher with 3,016 yds. The old record was of 2,837 career yds held by Tony Garrido. Fraser had 88 yds rushing on 9 carries and 2 TDs, and Senior FB Camron Smith had 58 yds on 6 carries and a TD. Nixon had 1 catch for 46 yds and a TD, senior TE Tommy Higgins had 35 yds on 1 catch and sophomore David Manley had 1 catch for 23 yds.

On Defense, Smith had a great night, falling on a fumble in the end zone for 6 pts and creating a safety for 2 more. Nixon had 4 tackles and 2 sacks, Derek Brogdon had 4 tackles, Fraser had 3 tackles, 1/2 sack and an interception for a 23 yd return, sophomore Chris Rogers had 3 tackles and a sack, junior Vince Ellis has a sack, Junior Jeff Brady had a sack and Senior Jon Crase had 1/2 sack. Junior Alex Carter only had 2 tackles but he definitely had the hit of the game that had the crowd on both sides of the field going ouch! Some people said the hit could be heard several blocks from the stadium.

Next up for the Lightning is the final game of the regular season against the Excelisor Educaton Eagles at Lightning Stadium on Friday Nov. 3rd at 7:00PM. The Eagles are 3-5 and in 4th place in the Agape League. The snack bar opens at 6:00PM, so come out early. Forecast is severe Lightining so the game could be over at the half!
