  Senior Eddie "Nitro" Nixon had 5 TDs.  Senior Derek Brogdon had 19 Tackles and a fumble Recovery.  Senior Boomer Arnold had 14 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 QB hurries.

Lightning On Their Way to the Ship!

On the coldest night of the season so far; the Lightning varsity football team (11-0-1) took on the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals of Santa Clarita, California in the semi-finals of the CIF Southern Section 8-Man Division I playoffs. The last time these two teams met, the Lightning won 66-27, in the 2nd week of the season. Tonight the Cardinals played tough in the first half which ended just 20-14, Lightning.

The Lightning came out in the 2nd half and outscored the Cardinals 38 to 7, until the 4 minute mark of the 4th quarter when the Lightning gave up two quick scores and the game ended 58-35 Lightning. The win sends the Lightning on to the 8 man Division I finals. The Lightning will play the Faith Baptist Contenders for the Divisional Championship for the 2nd time in 3 years.

The Lightning offense had a total of 407 rushing yards and 31 passing yards. The leading rusher was senior Eddie "Nitro" Nixon with 14 carries and 210 yards with 5 touchdowns. Junior Cole Roberts who ran for 13 carries and 153 yards as well as 2 touchdowns. Senior QB Jesse Frazer had 21 yds on 8 carries and senior FB Alex Carter had 23 yds on 4 carries. Senior Boomer Arnold caught the only pass for 31 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side the defensive leader was senior Derek Brogdon with 19 tackles and a fumble recovery, , joining him were Carter who had 18 tackles, senior Jon Krapivkin had 15 tackles, one for a loss, Roberts had 16 tackles, Arnold had 14 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 hurries. Junior Vincent Ames had 2 tackles and 2 sacks, senior Jeff Brady had 4 tackles and a QB hurry and sophomore Steven Henderson had 2 tackles and 1 sack.

The championship game will be played Friday night at 7:00PM at Lightning Stadium. The festivities will start at 6:00PM with the snack shack and the Lightning pep band pre game show. For more information call the school office at 760-365-3599.
