Lightning Stuff the AVC Eagles 42-6!

(Lancaster, CA) The Lightning varsity football team (6-0-1) finished their last regular season road game against the Antelope Valley Christian Eagles on Saturday Oct. 20th. The Eagles game into the game ranked #5 in the CIF 8-Man Division II with a record of 5-1 and averaging over 53 pts a game on offense. The Lightning ranked #2 in CIF Division I had been averaging 45 pts a game on offense winning three of the games by the 45 pt mercy rule. Two powerful offenses should mean a wide open offensive game with lots of scoring. That was the case for the Lightning offense, but the Lightning defense has other plans for the Eagles.

The Eagles did move the ball rushing for 124 yd's and passing for 55. But the Lightning defense would only allow 6 pts in the entire game. The Eagles had several opportunities only to be shut down by the Lightning defense and denying them the points.

On offense Senior RB Eddie "Nitro" Nixon had 22 carries for 185 yd's and 3 TD's, junior FB Cole Roberts had 6 carries for 52 yd's, 2 TD's and a 2pt conversion, Senior FB Alex Carter had 5 carries for 37 yd's and a 2 pt conversion, senior QB Jesse Frazer had 7 carries for 37 yd's, a 2 pt conversion and was 1 of 4 for 2yds and 1 TD; junior Denzell Dobbins had 1 carry for 7 yd's and Senior Derek Brogdon had 1 catch for 2 yd's and a TD.

The Lightning defense has been awesome over the last three games. After the 12-12 tie at Rolling Hills Prep an adjustment was made in the defense. Since that game, the Lightning have given up just 6-pts in 12 quarters of play. In this game the Lightning had 5 sacks, 3 caused fumbles, 1 recovered fumble and 1 interception. The top defender was Carter with 18 tackles and .5 sacks, Roberts had 14 tackles and a sack, Brogdon had 10 tackles, senior TE Boomer Arnold had 8 tackles and .5 sacks, senior CB Jon Krapivkin had 8 tackles, a sack and an interception, Frazer had 6 tackles, junior nose guard Vincent Ames had 5 tackles. 2 sacks and a recovered fumble, senior Defensive End Jeff Brady had 5 tackles and Nixon had 4 tackles.

Next up for the Lightning homecoming on Friday October 26th at 7:00PM against the Bethel Christian Eagles of Lancaster. The events will start at 6:00PM with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, and then a show by mini cheer camp. The Cheer squad and the Pep Band will also be entertaining before the game and at half-time. The Eagles have not won a game this year so, it would be wise to get there before half-time. The game could end by the 45 pt mercy rule at the half.
