Lightning Football Feature Top Players!

The Lightning Varsity football team completed their 2007 season featuring their top players at an awards banquet held at Joshua Springs High School on Tuesday December 18th. The excitement was in the air as parents and players filled the room knowing they had just completed the most successful season of football in the school's history. The Lightning 12-0-1 won their first CIF 8-Man Division I Championship this year after 3 unsuccessful previous trips to the finals.

The evening started out with a tasty meal while Coach Roberts thanked the many people that helped to make this year a great year. Then the moment all the players were waiting for arrived; the annual "Hit Parade"; the video presentation of the hardest hits of the season as well as individual spotlights on each player. Players and parents applauded the individual efforts of each player as they watched with a feeling of accomplishment. After the exciting presentation the coaching staff filled the stage to hand out the individual awards.

Players receiving awards for the JV team were sophomore Josh Leichter who was awarded the JV Most Valuable Player, sophomore Chris Barnes who received the JV Offensive Player of the Year, freshman Tyler Carlise who received the JV Defensive Player of the year and Junior Tyler Erickson who was awarded the JV Lineman of the Year.

Varsity players receiving awards were senior Jesse Frazer who was voted All State, Agape League - Most Valuable Player, and received the "2007 Most Valuable Player" by his coaches, senior Eddie Nixon who was voted All State - Most Valuable Player in the 8-Man Division I, all Agape League and received the "Offensive Player of the Year" award from his coaches, senior Boomer Arnold who was voted All State, "Agape League - Most Valuable Defensive Player" and received the "Iron Man Award" from his coaches, senior Alex Carter who was voted All State, All Agape League and received the "Defensive Player of the Year" award by his coaches, senior Derek Brogdon who was voted All State, All Agape League and received the "Team Leadership Award" from his coaches, senior Jon Krapivkin who was voted All state, All Agape League and received the "Coaches Award" from his coaches, junior Cole Roberts who was voted All State and All Agape League, senior Jeff Brady who was voted All Agape League and junior Vincent Ames who was voted All Agape League.

Coach Jackie Roberts was also awarded the "Coach of the Year - 8-Man Division Award" by the Coaches in participating schools in 8-man football as well as the "Coach of the Year" in the Agape League. Coach Roberts was very humble about receiving these awards stating that "It took every coach on this stage to have a year like we had, I was very lucky enough to be a part of it too."

As Coach of the Year, Coach Roberts will be the head coach for the 8-Man All Star Game that will be played in June.
