Lightning Crush the Patriots 45-0!

(Hesperia, CA) The Lightning varsity football team (5-0-1) was on the road Saturday, October 12th, visiting their arch rivals the Hesperia Christian Patriots. The Patriots (2-3-1) have never beaten the Lightning Varsity football team, but you never know if this was going to be the year. It didn't take long to see how the game was going to go when senior RB Eddie "Nitro" Nixon grabbed the opening kickoff and ran it back all the way to the Patriots 12 yd line. The Lightning scored quickly and it was 6-0, Lightning.

The Lightning struck 4 times in the first half creating a 25-0 first half lead. The closest the Patriots ever came to their goal line was a drive that took them down to the Lightning 15 yd line. A 15 yd penalty then put them back on the 30-yd line and the Lightning defense shut them down from there. The Lightning have never shut out the Patriots before in the 8-year series, this was the second mercy rule, the last time was in 2001 when the Lightning defeated the Patriots 55-6, on the way to the CIF Championship against Rio Hondo Prep.

The Lightning Defense held the Patriots to 88 yds rushing and 27 yds passing while the Lightning offense rolled up 306 total yds and 7 TD's. Nixon had 14 carries for 147 yds and 2 TDs, junior FB Cole Roberts had 11 carries for 48 yds and 2 TDs, QB Jesse Frazer had 4 carries for 44 yds and 1 TD while also passing for 5 of 6 for 62yds and 2 TDs. Senior TE Derek Brogdon had 4 catches for 38 yds and 2 TDs and senior Boomer Arnold had 1 catch for 24 yds.

The defense once again had a spectacular game creating their third shut out of the season. Tops on D, were Senior Alex "The Terminator" Carter who earned a spot in the "Lightning Hall Of Fame" with 19 tackles (tying Eddie Nixon and Jordan Leichtner at 3rd spot) and a fumble recovery, senior Jon Krapivkin had 13 tackles at the corner spot, Arnold had 10 tackles, a sack for 13 yd loss and a fumble recovery, Nixon had 8 tackles, Senior Jeff "B-Rad" Brady had 7 tackles, 2 for a loss, and Frazer had 6 tackles.

Next up for the Lightning is a trip to Lancaster, California to take on the Agape League Antelope Christian Eagles. The Eagles are 5-1 and are ranked #5 in the CIF 8-man Division II. The Eagles are suppose to have a powerful offense and should be a good challenge for the Lightning Defense. The game starts at 1:00PM on Saturday Oct. 20th, for directions just click here or call the school office at 760-365-3599.
