Lightning Scorches Mounties 65-8!

Last Friday Night, the Joshua Springs Lightning (10-0-1) defeated the Montclair Prep Mounties (6-5), 65-8. This was a quarterfinal match in the CIF Southern Sectioin 8-man Div I playoffs. The Lightning traveled all the way to Van Nuys, CA. to take on the Mounties and played on a neutral site. Lucky for the Mounties the beating the Lightning gave them was not before their home crowd.

Seconds into the game the scoring started for the Lightning, for within two plays senior Eddie Nixon had rushed for a touchdown to bring the Lightning to a 7-0 lead over the Mounties. Montclair was not at all prepared for Nixon as he rushed for 211 yards on 11 rushes, and he scored four rushing touchdowns. Nixon also had one receiving, on kickoff return and one punt return for touchdowns. Senior Jesse Frazer threw one pass to Nixon on which he scrambled for 59 yards and a touchdown. Senior Derek Brogdon made three out of four PATs and had one punt for 40 yards. He also had nine kickoffs for 434 yards and 8 touchbacks.

The Lightning Offense worked its magic to score 65, but the defense was even more impressive holding Montclair Prep to just eight points. Tops in defense were Brogdon who had 13 tackles, Frazer, Nixon and senior Alex Carter all chipped in with 11 tackles each. Jon Krapivkin had 9 tackles and an interception in which he returned the ball 29 yards and a touchdown. Cole Roberts chipped in 10 tackles, Boomer Arnold seven, Jeff Brady four, Vincent Ames three, Steven Henderson and Denzell Dobbins each had one tackle. The Lightning defense in total had 81 tackles and two sacks and scared the Montclair punt team into a safety. The next game will be at home 7:00PM Friday night versus Santa Clarita Christian in the Eight Man Division Semi-Finals. This game should be interesting since Joshua Springs defeated them by 39 pts in their last match-up. The Lightning hope to see all of you there.
