Biography
2007 (Senior) - As a senior Derek played TE, Kicker and Safety. Derek finished the season with 19 catches for 291 yds and 9 TDs, kicked 25 of 40 PATs and had 54 touchbacks on kickoffs. On defense he finished with 111 tackles (2nd on the team), 23 pass defenses and 2 interceptions. Derek was voted All State, All Agape League and received the "Team Leadership Award" from his coaches,
2006 (Junior) - As a junior Derek played several positions. He was used as a TE on offense as well as all the kicking duties of kick-offs, punts and PATs and on defense he was a starting CB. Derek finished the season with 10 catches for 119 yds, 1 TD, 10 carries for 26 yds, and kicked 34 of 45 PATs. On defense he finished with 71 tackles (2nd on the team), 4 for a loss, 13 pass defenses and 3 interceptions. Derek was voted All Agape League by the Agape League coaches because of his performance this year.
2005 (Sophomore) - As a sophomore Derek lead the JV team to a 7-0 undefeated season as QB and punter on offense. Derek also had limited time on defense at CB. Derek finished the season going 21 of 38 for 374 yds, 9 TDs, passing, and 51 carries for 514 yds, 8 TD's, rushing. Derek did most of the punting and also had 12 tackles on defense as a CB. For his performance this year Derek was voted the JV Offensive MVP 2005 by his coaches.
Fun Stuff: Derek's favorite food is pizza and his favorite subject is Math. Isaiah 41:10 is Derek's favorite Bible verse. What Derek likes most about football is making a good hit on someone. Derek likes to fish and ride his dirt bike when not playing sports.
Personal: Derek has been attending JS for 3 1/2 years. He is the son of Vince and Pamela O'Brien. He has two brothers and two sisters. His younger brother Gary also attends Joshua Springs.
