Purple and Gold Game Set for Aug. 23rd
The summer is almost over and the excitement of a new football season is in the air! Lightning football will be entering "Hell Week" on Aug. 18th-22nd and ending up the week with the annual fundraiser the "Purple and Gold" game. This will be the fans' opportunity to see this year's football team in action as they scrimmage against each other. The seniors that lead last year's team to the CIF Championship are gone now and the class of 2009 is ready to show the fans that they can bring it too!
Coach Roberts is satisfied with how the team is shaping up so far but is concerned about depth should the team get hit with injuries. The Lightning will continue to field a Jr Varsity and Varsity team even though only 24 players have come out so far. This means that JV players could see some varsity action as needed each week this season. The Lightning's first game is against Faith Baptist in a rematch of last year's championship game which should be a good one. The game will be on September 12th at 7:00PM at Lightning stadium.
Now, back to the fundraiser, this will be a great event for the whole family. Everything gets underway at 1:00PM with the punt, pass and kick competitions. Also, during this time Jumpees with be available for the smaller children and for the adults the JS Dunk Tank will be dunking pastors, coaches and other favorites; this is always a lot of fun. Hot dogs, corn on the cob, shaved ice, chips and soda will be available as a fundraiser.
The games get underway at approximately 3:30 when the jr. high team will take the field and the varsity game will be at 5:00PM. Bring your favorite chair and some extra cash to support your Lightning players in competition.
