Lightning Fall to Cardinals 54-32!
The Cardinals started off with a 77 yd kickoff return to put the Lightning in the hole early. Their 2nd score was on a 60 yd interception. The rest of their 33 first half points came off just 5 offensive plays, they only had 11 offensive plays in the first half.
Lets look at this a little closer; in the game, the Lightning had 87 offensive plays, the Cardinals had 27. The Lightning had 403 total yds in the game and the Cardinals had 375. The Lightning had 26 first downs and the Cardinals only 8. So who controlled the ball more and the clock?... the Lightning. It was a game of huge plays for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals received 360 of their 375 total yds on 6 plays that is 60 yds per play, the other 21 plays produced 15 total yds.
The Lightning were only down by 1 score with 3 minutes to play, despite giving up all the big yardage. So, the Lightning played a hard game and got beat by an incredible running back and a couple of good defensive big plays.
Cole Roberts had 47 carries for 253 yds and a TD while also grabbing 3 catches for 13 yds. Roberts accounted for 17 of the Lightning's 27 first downs. Tyler Carlisle had 8 carries for 38 yds and a TD. QB Zack Ontiveros was 12 of 23 for 106 total yds, a TD and a TD rushing, TE Josh Leichtner had 8 catches for 80 yds and a TD. Steven Henderson also had 2 catches for 13 yds and a rushing TD.
On Defense Chris Barnes had 7 tackles, Carlisle had 5 tackles, Roberts had 5 tackles and Denzell Dobbins had a pick that he returned for 25 yds.
Next up for the Lightning is a home game Saturday, September 27th at 7:00PM at Lightning Stadium against the #4 ranked Avalon High School from Catalina Island. JS is currently ranked #5 even with the two losses.
