Lightning Defense Holds to Win 20-15!
The Lightning picked up their first win of the 2008 season traveling to Victorville and defeating the Victor Valley Christian Royals in a very close game. The Lightning needed this win to get back on track after a very hard defeat last week in Los Angeles at Windward High School. "It felt good to pick up the win" said Lightning defensive back Chris Barnes. "The whole team played well tonight!" That's what it took to defeat a very good Victor Valley Christian team.
The Royals scored first in the 1st quarter going up 7-0 and held the Lightning scoreless. But in the 2nd quarter the Lightning broke loose and score 20 straight points showing the Royals that this is still a good team even with the four losses. The Royals came back with a score in the 3rd quarter making it 20-15. The Lightning defense held strong on a fourth quarter drive by the Royals and hanging on to win 20-15.
Top player stats were RB Cole Roberts rushed 34 times for 196 yds scoring all three touchdowns. Sophomore RB Tyler Carlise also did some nice rushing with 6 carries for 112 yds. The Defense stepped it up creating 8 sacks in the game, 3.5 by Senior Ryan Parker. The sacks made a big difference with several coming in the 4th quarter when they were really needed. Freshman Erik McClay had a huge interception to stop a Royal Drive as well.
Next up for the Lightning is a home game Friday, October 17th at 7:00PM at Lightning Stadium against the Hesperia Christian. The Patriots have never beaten the Lightning in 7 years and they want to take advantage of this year's team if they can. Be sure and come out to support the Lightning work their way to the 2008 playoffs.
