Lightning stadium was full of fans excited to see this year's team for the first time this season and to see what they could do against the reigning Champions of 8-Man Div I. The last time these two teams met the Cardinals had their way defeating the Lightning 54-32 at Santa Clarita, the Lightning lead the series 2-1 overall.
This game would turn out to be a defensive battle with both teams struggling on offense at times. The Lightning defense shut down the Cardinals running game and only allowed a few big plays through the air. The Lightning offense used a balanced attack scoring twice by ground and once by air. The Lightning won the game 22-6.
Senior Zack Ontiveros was 9 of 13 for 94 yds and 1 TDs and also rushed 7 times for 43 yds. Junior Tyler Carlisle got on track in this game with his his first 100 yd game of the year after only 19 yds last week against Faith Baptist. Carlisle carried 28 times for exaclty 100 yds and 2 TDs. Senior Steven Henderson had 8 carries for 21 yds and sophomore Greg Lindblom carried 5 times for 15 yds. Senior Josh Leichtner had a great day receiving with 6 catches for 68 yds and 1 TD and Henderson had 1 catch for 25 yds.
On Defense, Carlisle lead the pack with 10 tackles, 1 for a loss, Lindblom had 10 tackles, sophomore Erik McClay had 10 tackles, sophomore Levi Garrido had 9 tackles, 1 caused fumble, 1 recovered fumble and 1 interception for 25yds, Leichtner had 7 tackles, Henderson, senior Chris Barnes and junior Jono Sullivan each had 5 tackles. Junior Michael Samu had a recovered fumble.
Next up for the Lightning is another home game on Friday, Sept. 25 against the Desert Christian (CSOD) Conquerors.
