Lightning Sweep Baptist Christian 3-0!

Story By David TenBrook

It was a day to remember for the parents and friends who had gathered into the Thunderdome to watch the Lightning volleyball team play against 4-time defending CIF Volleyball champions, Baptist Christian. Many cheered and rooted for both of the teams as the 5th ranked, undefeated, Joshua Springs Lightning came out on top sweeping the former champs 3-0. The games went 15-9, 15-10 and 15-8. "Baptist Christian gave us a good run in the 2nd game and had us up against wall" said Coach Newcomb. "But our team rallied for 11 straight points and won 15-10".

The Lightning was led by Amber Carter (#7) who had a total of 16 kills, 13 assists and 4 aces. Becca Millard (#10) had a total of 10 kills and 20 assists and 9 aces. Tonya Carter (#4) led all defenders with 11 blocks and both Tonya and Brianne Jones (#21) were perfect serving the ball with no errors.

The undefeated Joshua Springs improved to a 7-0 record in this 2002 season. The JV volleyball players also won their game against Baptist Christian with 2-1 score. This was their first win of the season. They now have a season record of 1 win and 2 losses.

The Lightning play again on Saturday 28th in Hemet at the West Valley Tournament, which is hosted by West Valley High School. We invite you to come and cheer on the Lightning as they take on the best competition of the year so far. See the Varsity Schedule for directions and details.
