Lady Lightning Lose to Lucerne Valley 3-0

The Lady Lightning (1-5) have had a rough start so far this year but are improving with each game. This year's team has a whole new coaching staff and only one senior, who is also new to Joshua Springs this year.

The Lady Lightning took on the Lucerne Valley Mustangs at the Thunderdome Tuesday afternoon and played very well even though they lost all three games.

The Lady Lightning got behind in the first game on some miscues and gave up some easy points to the Mustangs. But then sophomore Allison Reed got hot at the serving end causing a 4-pt rally for the Lightning and some excitement for the home crowd. The Lady Lightning lost the first game 14-25 to the Mustangs but you could feel the confidence growing for the Lady Lightning in the last few rallies.

The second game was an exciting game with great play on both sides of the net. The game was tied eight different times as each team would put together 3pt to 4pt rallies at a time. Lightning senior Misty Knehr had several blocks and one kill, while Reed continued her perfect serving. Junior Amanda (Nellie) Nelson got in on the action with a kill and good setting. At one point Junior Katy Ortiz just took over the game, scoring four points in a row including three kills. But the Mustangs were able to hold on and win 24-26.

The Lady Lightning played good defense in the third game with great blocks by Reed and Knehr as well as some good hitting by Junior Ashley Vrooman. The Mustangs won 16-25.

Next, the Lady Lightning will hit the road to take on Palm Valley High School at Rancho Mirage on Friday afternoon at 5:30 and then back home for the 2nd Annual Thuderstruck Volleyball tournament at the thunderdome on Saturday Morning starting at 9:00AM.

Lady Lightning JV Lose 0-2!

The Lady Lightning JV squad were 2-0 coming into this game, having won both of their first two matches, but could not keep the streak going. The Lucerne Valley Mustangs played a great match winning 25-23 the first game and 25-12 the second.

Players making great plays for the Lady Lightning were Sophomores Alyse Young, Gloria Williams, Aubry Fowler and Carissa Rarick.

The Lady Lightning JV team will also play next at Palm Valley on Friday at 4:00PM

See you at the game!
