Vrooman Makes 2005 MVP!By Amanda "Nellie" NelsonThe 2005 Varsity Volleyball team finished another great season by featuring their top players last Thursday at Joshua Springs. The volleyball banquet went very well with almost all of the team present. Before the awards were handed out a video of the season was played for all to see, this video was created by one of the dads who had a daughter on the team, Mike Ortiz. He would film the girls as they played their games and took highlights of each girl and put them all together on one video. First year Coach Bekka Patton, did a great job handing out awards at her first ever banquet. She made sure she thanked all the parents of the girls on the team for the sacrifices they made to have their daughters on the team and the girls because of all the sacrifices they all made to be on the team. Those receiving awards were as follows: Senior Ashley Vrooman received her fourth varsity letter as well as being named the Most Valuable Player of the year; she was the setter and had the most assists in the Agape League. Senior Amanda Nelson received her fourth varsity letter for volleyball and the “Nelly Award” (AKA “Ultimate Captain Award), which was for her abilities as a captain, always being there when the coaches weren’t and doing all she could to get the money for the new uniforms. Amanda also received 1st Team All Agape League and 2nd Team All CIF. Junior Laura Adair received her second varsity letter for volleyball and she received the award for the Most Improved Player of 2005. Senior Katrina Abel received her third varsity letter for volleyball and she received the award for being the “Utility Player of 2005 ”, she played every position except setter at one time or another. Danielle Buckner received her third varsity letter this year as well as the “Hard as a Rock Award for 2005 ”, her kills were the hardest to dig out of all the girls on the team. Junior Kristin Manley received her second varsity letter for volleyball and she received The Best Serve Award" on the team, in the clinch she made the tuff serves. Senior Melissa Ward received her fourth varsity letter for volleyball and was recognized for her deft abilities, like playing lebero and middle back and setter. Senior Anandi Hira received her fourth varsity letter as well as recognition for being the most coachable girl on the team. Sophomore Kylie McKoy and Junior Carissa Rarick both received varsity letters for their time on the varsity team where they cheered on their teammates and played when they were needed too.
