Lightning Volleyball News...
Lady Lightning Fall to Laguna Blanca 1-3!The DIV. 5AA #1 Ranked Laguna Blanca Owls came to the Thunderdome Saturday afternoon to take on the Lady Lightning in a quarter-final match to determine who would move on to the semi-finals. The Lady Lightning (15-8) had defeated Boron High School 3-1 on Thursday evening in the first round of this year's playoffs to earn the right to play the Lady Owls. The Lady Owls showed the Lightning fans why they are ranked #1 by playing near perfect volleyball. The Lady Owls were all over the court and played great defense against the Lady Lightning power hitting of Seniors Katy Ortiz and Danielle Buckner. That seemed to be the difference in the first game as the Lightning just could not seem to penetrate the Owls defense. The Lady Owls won 12 to 25. The 2nd game didn't get much better. The Lady Lightning played great, with strong blocking from Senior Amanda Nelson and Katrina Abel, but the Lady Owls were just a little bit better at working the court. The Lady Owls won the 2nd game 15-25. In the third game the Lady Lightning seemed to come alive and they quickly had the Lady Owls down by 6 points. The Lady Lightning played the best volleyball they played all year in the third game and let the Lady Owls know they were not going to go down easy. The Lady Lightning took the third game 25-19. The Lady Lightning fought hard in the fourth game trying to stay alive and take the Lady Owls to a fifth game, but everything seemed to fall for the Lady Owls in game four and they stopped the Lady Lightning 16-25 and finishing a great season for the Lady Lightning. We want to congratulate Coach Fox, Asst Coaches Patton and Dean as well as every member of this years team for the great year they had. Good luck to all the seniors as they move on to the next level.
