Lightning Volleyball News... Lady Lightning Lose to Riverside Christian 0-3!The Lady Lightning traveled to Riverside Christian Tuesday afternoon to take on the Lady Cougars in the Lightning's second match of the season. The Cougars (1-0) were ready for the Lady Lightning (1-1) and except for the first game dominated the match. The Cougars came out strong in game one and had the Lady Lightning down 13-3 but the Lady Lightning fought back and lost the first match only 21-25. Game two and three for the Lady Lightning were hard fought battles but the Cougars' floor play was exceptional and the Lady Lightning fell 11-25 and 8-25. Even though it was a rough night for the Lady Lightning there were some shinning stars on offense and defense. Senior Allison Reed had 9 kills and 4 aces, Junior Kylie McKoy had 5 kills and 3 aces, Senior Alyse Young had 3 kills and 2 blocks and Senior Amanda Newcomb had 25 assists and 2 aces. "The strongest part of our game is our serving at this point, said Coach Newcomb, "We are averaging about 30% aces which is great". Coach Newcomb was glad to have such a challenging game in the pre season, he said "Riverside Christian is probably the best team we will see this year in the regular season. They were great! Our girls learned a lot from this game." The Lady Lightning JV team also played and did better on individual play but still lost both games 16-25 and 17 -25. There are a lot of new players on the JV team that are getting better with each game they play. Next up for the Lady Lightning, is a home game with the Lucerne Valley Mustangs on Thursday, Sept. 14th at the Thunderdome. The JV games is at 4:30PM and the Varsity at 5:30PM. Lucerne is a very good team this year, so this should be a very challenging match.
