Lightning Volleyball News... ![]() Lightning Finish as Agape League Co-Champions!(Nov. 6th, Victorville, CA.) The Lady Lightning (14-15, 9-1) traveled to Victorville tonight to take on the Victor Valley Christian Royals (13-9, 9-1) for the Agape League Championship. The Lady Lightning had won 9 games in a row and were 9-0 in Agape League play, the Royals were 8-1 having only lost to Hesperia Christian. If the Lady Lightning were to win then the crown would be theirs only, if they were to lose then then would share the crown...and that is exactly what happened. The Royals were just too much for the Lady Lightning this night; they defeated the Lightning 25-11, 25-15 and 25-19. This was a disappointing loss for the Lady Lightning but still this team was the first in the school's volleyball history to win or share in an Agape League title which is quite an accomplishment. The best finish a JS team had ever had was in 2005 when the team finished 8-2 in the Agape League. Official stats were not available at posting of this story but some of the outstanding play was by Ashlyn Morrison who had 10 straight serves in the final game that put the Lightning on top 18-9 before the Lady Royals made a 16-1 run that clinched the final game and the match. Emily Wilson, Haley Allen, Jackie Cook and Nicole Barker all had several kills each on the night and Kim Trowbridge had a couple of nice blocks. Abby Lombardo had the only aces of the night and was near perfect serving. The Lady Lightning now have to prepare for the playoffs which start on Tuesday, Nov. 10th. The school will find out on Sunday, Nov. 9th as to the CIF Division VAA parings for the post season tournament. The best any JS team has done in the post season in volleyball was in 2001 when the team finished 2nd place in the Agape League and then progressed to the 3rd-round (quarter-finals) of the post season tournament and loss to Lighthouse Christian 0-3. This year's team is hoping to do as well.
