Lightning Volleyball News... ![]() Lady Lightning Upset Hesperia Christian 3-1!The Lady Lightning (8-6, 3-0) hosted the Hesperia Christian Lady Patriots (7-6-1, 2-2-1) on Friday, Oct.17 th at the Thunderdome. The Lady Patriots are one of the elite teams in Div V-AA year after year and for the last 8 years, have dominated the Lady Lightning. The Lady Lightning have never won more than 2 games in a match with the Lady Patriots. But this night the Lady Lightning would put together a team effort that got the job done. The Lady Lightning defeated the Lady Patriots 25-17, 25-23 and 26-24. The Lady Lightning are currently ranked #9 in CIF DIV V-AA and could make it to the playoffs this year if they continue to play well. The Lady Lightning surprised the Patriots by jumping out ahead in game one and held strong to the lead winning the first game 25-17. The Lady Patriots game back and played hard in the 2nd game and got the Lady Lightning out of their game plan and defeated them 18-25. In game 3 the Lady Patriots had the Lightning down 23-17 and the Lady Lightning rallied 8 straight points to defeat the Patriots 25-23. The last game was a game of streaks. The Lady Patriots jumped ahead 1-9 and had the Lightning in a big hole but behind great serving the Lady Lightning fought back and took the lead 12-11 and then increased the lead to 18-15. Then the Lady Patriots scored eight straight points to make it 24-18. One thing the Lady Lightning don't ever do is give up and they served 8 straight points of their own to win the game 26-24. The crowd went wild in celebration of breaking the 8-year winning drought against the Lady Patriots. Emily Wilson had 17 kills, Jackie Cook had 10 kills, Haley Allen had 9 kills and Nicole Barker had 5 kills. The Lightning had 95% serving as a team, with Wilson, Cook, Ashlyn Morrison and Abby Lombardo serving at 100%. Wilson and Lombardo had 4 aces each and Allen had 3 aces. The defense at the net was strong from Kim Trowbridge, Wilson and Barker.
