Lady Lightning Fall Short in Barnburner!

The Lady Lightning (5-6) hosted the Lucerne Valley Mustangs (1-4) Tuesday afternoon at the Thunderdome. The Lady Lightning, looking for a an easier opportunity to win after a tough tournament on Saturday, found themselves in a barnburner with the Lady Mustangs that started in game one and continued to the last minute of the 5th game. This was a very exciting match to watch for the fans but one that gave the coaches a good old rollercoaster ride.

The Lady Lightning won the first match 25-20. It was a good game but a game of mistakes on both sides. The Lady Mustangs won the 2nd game 18-25 when the Lightning seem to lose focus and created costly mental mistakes that lost the game. The next three games were absolute barnburners where both teams seem to be on fire and neither team wanted to lose. The Lady Mustangs won the 3rd game 23-25 even with a last minute rally by the Lady Lightning that fell short. The next game started out strong for the Lady Lightning but then the Lady Mustangs fought back to make a game of it, but the Lightning held on to win 26-24. The last game the Lightning jumped out ahead but the Lady Mustangs fought back and took the lead to win 15-17. The match lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. A lot was learned on both sides of the net in this game.

Some of the player highlights during the match were Abby Lombardo, who was on fire with her serving went 20 for 21 and 18 assists while setting, Emily Wilson led the team with 18 kills and Haley Allen who seemed to be involved on every play had 11 kills. Ashlyn Morrison had some awesome diggs leading the team with 33, and Jackie Cook did well at setting earning 13 assists along with having 8 kills also. Kim Trowbridge had some key blocks and had a solid match. Nicole Barker was had a great night of serving going a perfect 20 for 20 with 4 aces and played well defending the net. This was a good team effort.

The Lady Lightning will next face the Joshua Springs Alumni on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 7pm as they continue to prepare for Agape League play. After playing a very tough preseason the team is looking to their first league game with Antelope Valley Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 10th at 5:30. Come on out to the Thunderdome to cheer on the Lightning both past and present.
