Lady Lightning Lose to the Bulldogs!

The Lady Lightning (0-10, 0-4) took on the Redlands Adventist Academy Lady Bulldogs (2-5, 1-3) on Monday afternoon at Lightning Field. The Lady Bulldogs had lost their last five games coming into the game and were looking to pick up a win; the Lady Lightning were still looking for their first win this year and was hoping today would be the game.

Things started off against the Lightning when Margo Clyde, the Lightning starting pitcher went hope sick earlier in the day and was unable to play. Then for some reason no officials showed up for the game and an alternate had to be called in delaying the game by nearly an hour which was frustrating for all the players for both teams. However, both teams were excited to start play when the new ref finally arrived.

Ashley Turner was called up to do the pitching for the Lightning and the game got underway. The first inning was a hard one for the Lady Lightning giving up eleven runs on three hits. The Lightning committed three fielding errors and walked 8 batters while striking out one. The Lady Lightning now had a lot of pressure on them to produce at the plate to get a rally going. The Lady Bulldogs had other plans showing strong defense holding the Lightning batters to a three and out.

In the 2nd inning the Lady Bulldogs expanded their lead another ten runs capitalizing on four more fielding errors from the Lightning as well as 5 hits of their own. The score was now 21-0.

In the bottom of the 4th the Lady Lightning finally had something good happen for them on the day when senior Becca Manley got on base with a walk and then a wild pitch put her in scoring position on 2nd base. Haley Correll also got on with a walk and now, there were runners on 1st and 2nd. Maddy Wahlberg was up next and she connected on solid single driving in Manley for an RBI. What made it special is its was also Maddy's 15th birthday and it got rid of a zero for the day. The score was now 24-1.

The Lady Bulldogs went on to score five more runs in the top of the 5th making the score 29-1 and that is how the game ended.

The losing pitcher on the day was Turner for the Lightning who went the distance facing 47 batters allowing 29 runs, 21 earned on nine hits while walking 15 and striking out three.

The top hitters of the day were Wahlberg who went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Lauren Pullium who went 1 for 3. Manley got on base all three times, scored the only run and had one steal.

Next up for the Lady Lightning is a road trip to Palm Springs to play the Desert Chapel Lady Eagles on Thursday, April 14th at 3:15PM.
